You might think that with the recent press surrounding our new First Lady, Michelle Obama, that I was writing about ladies’ fashion. Unfortunately, I am not.
Oakland, CA, Binghamton, NY, Pittsburgh, PA. Three Police Officers in Pittsburgh, and Four in Oakland, have been brutally killed in the line of duty in just two weeks time. 13 Students, Teachers and Office Workers were slain in Binghamton which is being called “one of the worst U.S. shootings since Virginia Tech.” Virgina Tech was just two years ago, 2007. All of the weapons used were legally purchased, and in both the police officers’ shootings, Assault Rifles were used. I don’t think that is what our forefathers had in mind when they wrote the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution.
|“||A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.||”|
Are they still arms or are they now weapons of mass destruction? Should we call assault weapons murder guns? Visit the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence for very scary stats related to domestic violence, suicide, children and guns, and the economic impact of gun violence.
The US still has the highest level of gun violence in the world. Our citizens and peace officers should not be at risk of losing their lives due to an outdated amendment; one that has been called the most contested in our Bill of Rights. I think that our Right to Life trumps that of the right to bear arms.
